Hlawga Birding Excursion (Day Return Trip)
Trip Overview
We will begin our private full day birding excursion by picking you up at your hotel in Yangon. Leaving your hotel in the early morning, we make a private driving north toward the park of Hlawga on the outskirts of bustling Yangon. The Hlawga Park is situated 22 miles north of Yangon and an hour drive from the city center. It is home to about 140 species of birds and its natural habitats consist of semi-evergreen forests, mixed deciduous forests, and swamp forests. We spend the day exploring the best birding sites in mixed lowland forest of the park, searching in particular for the highly sought-after Davison’s Bulbul (an upcoming split from Stripe-throated Bulbul), endemic Ayeyawady Bulbul, Racket-tailed Treepie, Chestnut-headed Bee-eater and Dark-necked Tailorbird, along with a selection of various other lowland forest species including Plaintive Cuckoo, Violet Cuckoo, Green-billed Malkoha, Greater Coucal, Lesser Coucal, Little Green Bee-eater, Blue-tailed Bee-eater, Rose-ringed Parakeet, Red-breasted Parakeet, Spotted Dove, Red-collared Dove, Yellow-footed Geen Pigeon, Oriental Honey-buzzard, Black-shouldered Kite, Shikra, Black-naped Oriole, Black-hooded Oriole, Black-winged Cuckooshrike, Rosy Minivet, Ashy Minivet, Ashy Woodswallow, Taiga Flycatcher, Grey-headed Canary Flycatcher, Black-naped Monarch, Oriental Magpie Robin, White-rumped Shama, Black-crested Bulbul, Red-whiskered Bulbul, Red-vented Bulbul, Rufescent Prinia, White-crested Laughingthrush, Lesser Necklaced Laughingthrush, Greater Necklaced Laughingthrush, Abbott’s Babbler, Puff-throated Babbler, Chestnut-capped Babbler, Scarlet-backed Flowerpecker, Ruby-cheeked Sunbird, Olive-backed Sunbirds, Van Hasselt’s Sunbird, etc. We will also have the chance to see some water birds and wetland species such as Burmese Spot-billed Duck, Oriental Darter, Little Cormorant, Black-crowned Night-heron, Grey Heron, Indian Pond-heron, Chinese Pond-heron, Red-wattled Lapwing, Bronze-winged Jacana, Little Grebe, Asian Openbill, etc. With luck we may find the seldom-encountered Pale-capped Pigeon.
