Trip Overview

This birding tour will start from your hotel and ending back at your hotel in Kalaw. Kalaw is a former British hill station founded during the British colonial period as well as a small town situated at an elevation of 1,310 meters (4,297 feet) on the western edge of the Shan Plateau in the eastern mountains of the country. Kalaw is famous for it cool and pleasant atmosphere like a high-altitude holiday resort and its colonial-era buildings. The natural habitats surrounding Kalaw comprise broadleaved evergreen forest, secondary growth and pine forest, providing habitats for over 200 species of birds.  We will begin our private full day birding excursion by picking you up at your hotel in Kalaw. Leaving your hotel in the early morning, we spend the day exploring the best birding sites around the small town of Kalaw, looking in particular for the highly localized Burmese Yuhina and various other sought-after species such as Dark-backed Sibia, Black-tailed Crake, Black-breasted Thrush, Collared Myna, White-browed Laughingthrush, Sliver-eared Laughingthrush, Scarlet-faced Liocichla, Spot-breasted Parrotbill, Black-headed Greenfinch and Spectacled Barwing, along with a number of widespread Asian mountain birds including Rusty-cheeked Scimitar-babbler, White-browed Scimitar-babbler, Oriental White-eye, Japanese White-eye, Yellow-footed Green-pigeon, Pin-tailed Green-pigeon, Wedge-tailed Green-pigeon, Grey-cheeked Fulvetta, Rusty-capped Fulvetta, Rufous-capped Babbler, Rufous-fronted Babbler, Brown Prinia, and Hill Prinia, Orange-headed Thrush, Black-breasted Thrush, Japanese Tit, Yellow-cheeked Tit, Black-headed Bulbul, Flavescent Bulbul, Brown-breasted Bulbul, Sooty-headed Bulbul, Puff-throated Bulbul, Ashy Bulbul, Mountain Bulbul, Himalayan-black Bulbul, Asian Pied Starling, Chestnut-tailed Starling, Mrs Gould’s Sunbird, Green-tailed Sunbird, Streaked Spiderhunter, Silver-breasted Broadbill, Long-tailed Broadbill, etc. In the evening we return to your hotel and conclude our birding excursion by dropping you off back at your hotel in Kalaw.
